Trinidad 7 Pot Burgundy
The Trinidad 7 Pot Burgundy. What can I say, this is one of my favorites! The taste and flavor is unbelievable and with the rich red/brown color you can easily fall in love with.
We used apple and plum in the sauce to accentuate the natural sweet flavor of honey and caramel....This is a extremely hot and very beautiful chilli from Trinidad, they say the pods have a honey flavor. As with all 7 Pots this chilli has some extreme heat. The pods have a very different and taste from traditional 7 pod.
Scoville Heat Units (SHU) : ~ 1,000,000.
Up to 700 times hotter than the Jalapeno.
This variety is from the Chaguanas area of Trinidad. It has built up an almost myth like quality. In Caribbean regions it is also known as 7 pot as one pod is said to provide enough heat to spice up 7 pots of stew. Pods are habenaro like in their shape but have the characteristic 'pimpling' as found on another fearsome variety - the Naga Morich. Unusually the proportion of Placental tissue is very high - an allusion to why this pepper is so outrageously hot.
